Whitaker’s Walkoff Picture Perfect Ending In Vestavia Hills Rebels Varsity’s Victory Over Thompson Leading to Playoff Birth
A walk-off single led Vestavia Hills past Thompson 5-4 on Thursday. The game was tied at four with Vestavia Hills batting in the bottom of the seventh when Luke Whitaker singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
The Rebels earned the victory despite allowing Thompson to score three runs in the fifth inning. Thompson’s big inning was driven by a walk by Pate and a single by Parker.
Bo Minor got the win in relief for the Rebels. He allowed three hits and one run over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three.
Parker took the loss for Thompson. He allowed eight hits and five runs over six innings, striking out four.
Garrison Cherry started the game for Vestavia. He lasted four and a third innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out one.
The Rebels collected eight hits. Andrew Knight and Jack Mason each had multiple hits for Vestavia.
Thompson tallied eight hits on the day. Parker, Walker, and Freeman all managed multiple hits.
